    Richly Toned 1838 Pattern Half Dollar Judd-73, Pollock-77, PR65 NGC

    1838 P50C Half Dollar, Judd-73 Restrike, Pollock-77, R.5, PR65 NGC. Obverse portrait of Liberty faces left, surrounded by 13 stars and the date. The medallically aligned reverse shows an eagle in flight in the center, with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA HALF DOLLAR spelled out around the periphery. Sharply struck and well preserved, with deep mauve-gray toning in the centers and vivid electric-blue iridescence at the borders. Free of hairlines or contact marks. A large V-shaped die crack occurs on the reverse, extending from 1 o'clock on the rim to the reverse center, and then back down to 4 o'clock on the rim. (NGC ID# 296N, PCGS# 11288)
