    Description

1851 Annular Cent in Billon With a Silver Wash
    Judd-127 Original, AU58

1851 P1C One Cent, Judd-127 Original, Pollock-149, Low R.6 AU58 PCGS. CAC. The obverse features CENT at the top and ONE TENTH SILVER at the bottom, while the reverse depicts a laurel wreath and the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA (the coin is reversed in the holder). Part of an effort to reduce the diameter of the cumbersome large cent. The center is perforated, unlike restrikes. Struck in billon (10% silver, 90% copper) with a plain edge. The billon has a silver wash over each side. The wash is gone over the high points and partially absent from the fields. As such, it is unlisted on USPatterns.com and in the Judd reference. Slight rub is seen over the design on each side.
