1851 Judd-127 Ring Cent Pattern Struck in Billon, PR65
1851 P1C One Cent, Judd-127 Original, Pollock-149, Low R.6, PR65 NGC. Q Struck on a perforated annular planchet. The obverse has CENT above and ONE TENTH SILVER below. The reverse shows a wreath of laurel around the second, larger ring with the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA outside. Struck in billon with a plain edge. According to www.uspatterns.com, the billon coins with a perforation are believed to be the original coins, although restrikes also are believed to exist. This attractive example show contact-free surfaces, with a combination of silver-gray and smoke-gray coloration.From The Jones Beach Collection.
