Description

1851 P1C One Cent, Judd-129 Original, Pollock-153, R.7, PR62 Red and Brown PCGS. The patterns Judd-127 through Judd-131 were an early proposed solution to the problem of an oversized copper Cent. A billon piece that contained one-tenth silver was suggested, and patterns were struck with and without perforated centers and in various alloys. Judd-129 was struck in copper with medal turn and has a central perforation, which classifies it as an original striking. Mostly apple-green in color, with a few small contact marks on the raised circle above ONE. An extremely rare pattern, Judd-129 has only appeared twice before in a Heritage sale to the best of our knowledge. PCGS has certified a mere six examples.
