Gem Proof 1852 Annular Gold Dollar Pattern

1852 PG$1 Gold Dollar, Judd-145, Pollock-173, Low R.6, PR66 NGC. This is the popular ring dollar, struck in gold, and highly desirable as such. Actually, this is a rather strange situation in which the gold pattern is more plentiful than any of the individual off-metal strikings. The purpose of the annular planchet was to allow a physically larger diameter coin. This is a lovely example with excellent proof luster and bright yellow-gold color.(#11602)
