Description

1852 Gold Ring Dollar in Copper
Judd-147, PR63 Red and Brown

1852 PG$1 Gold Dollar, Judd-147, Pollock-175, Low R.7 PR63 Red and Brown PCGS. CAC. An annular pattern with a large central perforation, which would have allowed a larger-diameter gold dollar. The annular format limits the devices to a wreath and scrollwork. Gold dollars were vital to commerce in 1852, since silver coins were worth more than face value and did not circulate. Struck in copper with a plain edge. At least 15 examples of this variety are known. The current piece displays reflective fields bathed in copper-gold and pale plum patina, with a sharp strike throughout the wreath and legends. Housed in a generation 3.1 green label holder.
Ex: Kagins (2/2018).
