    Description

    Copper Annular 1852 Gold Dollar
    Judd-147, PR66 Brown

1852 PG$1 Gold Dollar, Judd-147, Pollock-175, Low R.7, PR66 Brown NGC. An annular pattern with a large central perforation, which would have allowed a larger diameter gold dollar. The annular format limits the devices to a wreath and scrollwork. Gold dollars were vital to commerce in 1852, since silver coins were worth more than face value and did not circulate. Struck in copper with a plain edge. The obverse rim is much wider than the reverse rim. Significant mint red fills the obverse though the reverse is mostly gunmetal-gray and lilac-red with traces of the initial orange-gold.
    Ex: T. Henry Allen Collection (Stack's, 2/1977), lot 1135; Queller Family Collection Part Two (Heritage, 1/2009), lot 1541. (NGC ID# 299D, PCGS# 11610)

I received the catalog and was very impressed with its color illustrations, descriptions and attractive layout. (It has better production values than the New York houses.)
