Description

Near-Gem 1853 Cent Pattern, Judd-151

1853 P1C One Cent, Judd-151, Pollock-178, R.5, PR64 PCGS. The obverse is the same as that used to coin regular issue 1853 quarter eagles. The reverse shows the denomination ONE CENT within a laurel wreath. Struck in a 40% nickel / 60% copper alloy with a reeded edge. Bright and especially deeply reflective for a piece with so much nickel, the devices also show surprisingly crisp definition. A few light flecks of carbon are all that limit the grade of this lovely piece.(#11628)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 299K, PCGS# 11628, GSID# 12170)
