Description
1854 E1C Electrotype One Cent, Judd-159, Pollock-186, R.6-7, MS61 Red and Brown NGC. Pollock believes that the obverse die was created from a crudely reduced 1851 Seated Dollar die using the portrait lathe. The reverse features a prominent "1 CENT" denominational legend within a wreath of oak leaves and acorns. Struck in copper with a plain edge. Mahogany-brown patina dominates, although crimson color outlines the devices and legends. The well preserved obverse has blurry features and a faint target pattern (as made) on the Seated Liberty. The lightly abraded reverse is comparatively sharp. NGC has certified only four examples of Judd-159 in all grades. (#11655)Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 11655, Greysheet# 12180)
