1854 Smaller-Sized Cent in Copper or Bronze
    Judd-160, PR64 Brown

1854 P1C One Cent, Judd-160, Pollock-187, R.4 PR64 Brown PCGS. These patterns were a part of the Mint's experiments with a smaller diameter cent. The design is similar to the contemporary large cent but omits the stars and shrinks the wreath. Struck in copper or bronze with a plain edge. Very few examples of this pattern have undergone metallurgical testing to determine whether it is copper or bronze composition. The difference is not readily apparent to the unaided eye. This piece displays occasional streaks and dabs of original mint red interspersed on the otherwise brown surfaces. Pleasing for the grade.

The marketing was exceptional from the photos to the ads in Civil War Times and North South Trader for the cross over people!!! I have had many emails from my Civil War collecting fraternity that saw these and I saw them at the national show in Nashville/Franklin in early December.
