    Description

Collectible 1854 Pattern Large Cent, Judd-160

1854 P1C One Cent, Judd-160, Pollock-187, R.4, PR64 Red and Brown PCGS. Similar to the business strike 1854 cent, except smaller in diameter and without stars. The wreath is also smaller relative to the legend. 1854 was the beginning of serious efforts to reduce the size of the long-lived but cumbersome large cent, which was finally discontinued a few years later. A well struck Gem with pleasing surfaces. The ruby-red and gold colors are slightly too mellowed for a full Red designation. A few scattered hairlines and a tiny carbon spot to the right of the date serve to limit the grade.
