    Description

1854 Large Cent Design in Smaller Format
    Judd-160, Bright PR65 Brown

1854 P1C One Cent, Judd-160, Pollock-187, R.4, PR65 Brown PCGS. Ex: Bass Jr Collection. These patterns were a part of the Mint's experiments with a smaller diameter cent. The design is similar to the contemporary large cent but omits the stars and shrinks the wreath. Struck in copper or bronze with a plain edge. Both compositions are included in this single Judd number. Metallurgical analysis is required to determine if the piece is bronze or copper. Some later strikes show traces of die rust, not seen on this piece. The fields are bright and lighter in color than usually seen. Die clashing can be seen on the lower left portion of the obverse.

The marketing was exceptional from the photos to the ads in Civil War Times and North South Trader for the cross over people!!! I have had many emails from my Civil War collecting fraternity that saw these and I saw them at the national show in Nashville/Franklin in early December.
