    Description

    1854 Judd-161 Cent, PR63 Brown
    Full Strike, Clashed Dies

1854 P1C One Cent, Judd-161 Original, Pollock-187, R.4, PR63 Brown ANACS. The design is similar to that of contemporary large cents except the diameter is close to a quarter dollar, there are no stars on the obverse, and the wreath is proportionately smaller. Struck in bronze with a plain edge. Struck in bronze with a plain edge. The dies are boldly clashed; what appears at first glance to be a large center dot on the reverse is actually a clashmark from Liberty's inner ear. The sharply struck surfaces are deeply patinated and exhibit ocean-blue and peach undertones. A pair of faded thin marks on the back of Liberty's cheek prevent a higher grade. Certified in an ANA cache holder.
Ex: New York Signature (Heritage, 11/2003), lot 11011.
