Description

1854 Smaller-Sized Cent in Oroide
Judd-162, Proof Details

1854 P1C One Cent, Judd-162, Pollock-188, R.8 -- Polished -- NGC Details. Proof. An attempted large cent replacement, in a smaller size, lacking obverse stars, and with a smaller wreath. Struck in oroide with a plain edge. By far the most elusive of the patterns sharing this design, with neither the bronze nor the copper variants being a rarity. Though the glossy amber-brass surfaces show the luster of polish rather than an original, natural sheen, the rarity of this variant is such that condition defers to simple availability. A polished-out rim nick is noted at 8 o'clock on the obverse, but this has little impact on the eye appeal.
