1855 1C Flying Eagle Cent, Judd-170a, R.8, PR64 PCGS. Thirteen stars surround an eagle that is flying slightly upward, similar to the Christian Gobrecht/Titian Peale flying eagle design for the Gobrecht dollars but with a longer, curved neck to the eagle. The date 1855 is below with slanted 5s, and the reverse is similar to the large cent. The planchet is slightly smaller than the large cent, but larger than the famous 1856 Flying Eagle cent. Struck with a plain edge in an alloy of 89% copper and 11% nickel, per the PCGS insert. The piece weighs 98.76 grains. Significant amounts of red are seen on each side with light blue interspersed. Light die clashing is seen on both obverse and reverse.
