Popular 1855 Pattern Flying Eagle Cent in Large Format

1855 P1C Flying Eagle Cent, Judd-167 Original, Pollock-193, R.4, MS65 Brown NGC. A flying eagle Cent pattern in a large format, featuring a hooked-neck eagle, slanting 5s on the obverse, and ONE CENT in the center of the reverse surrounded by a thick laurel wreath similar to that of a Coronet Cent. Struck in copper with a plain edge. This coin is well struck over all devices save for many of the obverse star centrils. The latter feature probably helps to explain NGC's designation of this pattern as a business strike, but one can see modest hints of brightness in the fields at direct angles. Mottled lilac and orange-red undertones are also evident as the surfaces rotate under the light, but we cannot find a single mentionable blemish. (NGC ID# 29AE, PCGS# 11709)
