Description

1855 Flying Eagle Cent Pattern, Judd-167 Original
Multiply Clashed Dies on Each Side, PR63 Brown

1855 P1C Flying Eagle Cent, Judd-167 Original, Pollock-193, R.5, PR63 Brown NGC. A Flying Eagle cent pattern in large format, featuring a hooked-neck eagle and slanting 5s on the obverse. The reverse resembles the contemporary large cent, with ONE CENT in the center of the reverse surrounded by a thick laurel wreath. The diameter is between that of the 1856 large and small cents. Struck in copper with a plain edge. This interesting medium-brown, well-struck piece is multiply clashed on each side, with appealing surfaces overall but a rather large scratch on the reverse from the last A to UN. Described as "MS63 Brown" by NGC but clearly a proof in manufacture. Census: 5 in 63 Brown, 12 finer (9/11).

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 29AE, PCGS# 11709, Greysheet# 12221)
