    1855 Hooked-Neck Eagle Cent Pattern
    Judd-168 Original, PR64 Brown

1855 P1C Flying Eagle Cent, Judd-168 Original, Pollock-193, R.4, PR64 Brown NGC. A Flying Eagle cent pattern in a large format, featuring a hooked-neck eagle, slanting 5s on the obverse, and ONE CENT in the center of the reverse surrounded by a thick laurel wreath similar to a large cent. Struck in copper with a plain edge. This pattern is well-known for its absence of original red. While this piece is labeled as Brown, the obverse displays noticeable areas of original red around the margin. The remainder of the coin, both obverse and reverse is blue-brown. Sharply struck on the obverse, a few small contact marks are noted in the reverse fields.
