    Description

    1856 Half Cent, PR64
    Copper-Nickel Alloy, Judd-177

1856 E1/2C Half Cent, Judd-177, Pollock-205, R.5 PR64 PCGS. CAC. Struck from regular 1856 half cent dies with a plain edge, but in copper-nickel alloy instead of copper. Given that the famous 1856 Flying Eagle cents were struck the same year, Judd-177 may have been coined to test the alloy before small cent dies were available. The dentils are lightly impressed throughout, an early indication that the alloy would prove more difficult to coin than its copper predecessor. This is an orange-red near-Gem with exemplary preservation. One mint-made lint mark east of star 3.

The outcome of the auction far exceeded my best hopes and would not likely have been as successful with out your sound advice on where to present the coin and how best to set the reserve. Throughout the process your availability , support and knowledge were exceptional.
