    Description

    1856 Copper-Nickel Half Cent Pattern

1856 Half Cent, Judd-177, Pollock-205, R.5, PR 63 PCGS. Regular die trials striking for the half cent. Struck in copper-nickel with a plain edge. An important metallurgical trial strike that tested the proposed alloy for the Flying Eagle cents which were struck later in this same year. Some streaky brown patina overlays the "whiteness" of the copper-nickel alloy.
