    Description

    1856 Pattern Half-Cent Struck in Copper-Nickel

1856 Half Cent, Judd-177, Pollock-205, R.5, PR 63 PCGS. Regular die trials striking for the half cent. Struck in copper-nickel with a plain edge. An important metallurgical trial strike that tested the proposed alloy for the Flying Eagle cents which were struck later in this same year. Some streaky, golden-brown patina overlays the "whiteness" of the copper-nickel alloy. Weakly struck on the denticles at the borders.
