    Description

    Rare 1856 Flying Eagle Cent
    Judd-181, Snow-5b, Copper Pattern

1856 P1C Flying Eagle Cent, Judd-181, Pollock-213, Snow-5b, High R.6, PCGS Genuine. The PCGS number ending in .98 suggests Damage as the reason, or perhaps one of the reasons, that PCGS deemed this coin not gradable. In our opinion, this coin has the details of a VF specimen that has tooled fields. Struck with a plain edge from Snow-5 1856 Flying Eagle cent dies, but in copper instead of the standard copper-nickel alloy. Snow-5b is called as "Very rare" by Rick Snow, who lists five specimens, none of which correspond to the present microgranular example. It is moderately circulated and displays iridescent lime-green, lavender, and tan-gold toning. The fields have been smoothed and a small field depression is noted near the first A in AMERICA.
