    Description

1858 Flying Eagle Cent in Copper-Nickel
Judd-193, PR64, Ornamental Shield on Reverse

1858 P1C Flying Eagle Cent, Judd-193, Pollock-236, R.5, PR64 NGC. Eagle Eye Photo Seal, no card accompanies. The obverse is the regular issue Small Letters 1858 cent. The reverse resembles the issued 1860 Indian cent, as it displays an oak wreath and ONE CENT with a shield at the top, but the shield is comparatively broad and ornamental. Struck in copper-nickel with a plain edge. This piece has been metallurgically tested and the results are on the insert: 88% copper / 12% nickel, standard copper-nickel coin alloy. For copper-nickel this piece shows remarkably deep color. The obverse is covered with cherry-red color, while the reverse cherry-red and lilac. Deeply mirrored fields. A superior example of this interesting Flying Eagle cent pattern.

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 29BD, PCGS# 11844)
