    Description

1858 Flying Eagle, Oak Wreath With
    Shield Cent, Judd-193, PR66

    1858 P1C Flying Eagle Cent, Judd-193, Pollock-236, R.5, PR66 NGC.
    Design.
The regular-issue 1858 Flying Eagle, Small Letters obverse combined with an Oak Wreath, With Shield reverse featuring an ornamented shield. Struck in copper-nickel with a plain edge.

    Commentary.
The Judd-191, 192, and 193 Flying Eagle cent patterns, rated R.5, are among the more available of the various cent experiments produced during this era when the "old coppers" were being phased out, and they are popular and collectible; while still rare, they are much less so than most patterns, and they combine that with their broad appeal to aficionados of Flying Eagle and Indian cents.

    Physical Description.
The golden-tan surfaces reveal no mentionable distractions, with generous eye appeal and a bold strike much in evidence. A couple of streaks of darker orange toning appear on the reverse. NGC Census: 2 in PR66, none finer. PCGS Population: No specimens have been graded higher than PR65 (12/08).

    Provenance.
Ex: The Winner F. Delp Collection (Stack's, 11/1972), lot 14.
From The Lemus Collection, Queller Family Collection Part Two.

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 29BD, PCGS# 11844)
