    Judd-203, Hook-Necked Eagle

    1858 P1C Flying Eagle Cent, Judd-203, Pollock-247, R.5, PR64+ Cameo NGC. CAC. Borderline Gem condition for this mirrored-proof, Judd-203 pattern cent, which has pleasing purple and reddish-gold toning with nicely contrasted devices. The obverse displays a small, hook-necked eagle flying left with with wings that seem too tall for its slender body. The reverse design shows the denomination surrounded by an oak wreath (no shield), with arrows and an olive sprig wrapped in a bow. This popular pattern has a plain edge and displays a sharp strike on a copper-nickel planchet. A small void appears beneath the D in UNITED. Census: 10 in 64+, 7 finer (1/14).
