    Description

    1858 Hooked-Neck Cent in Copper-Nickel
    Judd-203, PR65

1858 P1C Flying Eagle Cent, Judd-203, Pollock-247, R.5, PR65 PCGS. CAC. The obverse shows a hooked-neck eagle flying left with tall wings. On the reverse the denomination is set within a wide oak wreath with an olive sprig and a group of three arrows are wrapped into the bottom of the wreath. Struck in copper-nickel with a plain edge. The Mint sold these pieces as part of 12-piece sets. As a result, examples are relatively common by pattern standards. The surfaces are clearly copper-nickel but the muted patina on each side tends to subdue the obviously bright reflectivity that lies just beneath the toning. Only a few specks of carbon are noted, and those are limited to the obverse.
