Description

1858 Paquet-Designed Cent in Copper-Nickel
Judd-204, PR65

1858 P1C Flying Eagle Cent, Judd-204, Pollock-248, R.5, PR65 PCGS. Anthony Paquet's small flying eagle motif is paired with an ornamental shield and oak wreath reverse. Struck in copper-nickel with a plain edge. This is the relatively common version of this popular pattern. The scarcer variant was struck in copper and only a half-dozen or so are known of those, making this the buy for the value-conscious collector. The obverse fields show dramatic, deep reflectivity and lighter tan color. The reverse is a few shades deeper with a hint of red and not quite as reflective as the obverse. A few specks of carbon are scattered about, this being just about the only flaw we see on this piece.
