    Important Choice Proof Brown Copper
1858 Paquet Flying Eagle Cent, Judd-205

1858 P1C Flying Eagle Cent, Judd-205, Pollock-249, R.8, PR64 Brown PCGS. Snow-PT17b. This interesting design pairs Paquet's small eagle obverse with a reverse similar to the issued 1860 Indian cent. The shield, however, is broad and has fancy scrollwork. These dies are fairly common in copper-nickel (Judd-204), but the present extremely rare pattern is struck in copper with a plain edge. It is deeply toned in navy-blue and olive-green with hints of ruby-red on the upper reverse. Razor-sharp, and would presumably grade higher by today's standards. Housed in an old doily label holder. PCGS has certified just four examples, with the current lot tied with one other as finest graded (11/08). NGC has yet to encapsulate any.
    Ex: Champa Collection (Stack's, 8/71).
