    1858 Indian Cent in Copper-Nickel
    Judd-208, Scarce Pollock-254, PR64 Cameo

1858 P1C Indian Cent, Judd-208, Pollock-254, R.7, PR64 Cameo NGC. Snow-PT35, R.7. There are four notable subvarieties of Judd-208; these include each combination of narrow or broad bust point obverses paired with either five or six-leaf cluster laurel wreath reverses. The present piece pairs the narrow bust point obverse with six-leaf clusters on the wreath. Struck in copper-nickel with a plain edge. Snow states, "Rare and popular as the true transitional - The exact style of 1859." estimates only a half-dozen or so pieces are known with this rare combination of a low date and a six-leaf cluster. The surfaces retain most of the bright, original honey-tan color that is inherent to copper-nickel, with slight reddish patina and an occasional dab or streak of deeper red. Stark contrast is evident between the fields and devices, as indicated by the Cameo designation.
