    Extremely Rare Judd-210
    1858 Indian Cent Pattern
    PR64 Red and Brown

1858 P1C Indian Cent, Judd-210, Pollock-260, R.8, PR64 Red and Brown NGC. The design closely resembles the 1859 Indian cent struck for circulation. The obverse has a broad bust point, and the reverse has five-leaf clusters within the wreath, both unlike the issued 1859 cent. Struck in bronze with a plain edge. Unlisted in Rick Snow's 1856-1858 attribution guide, which pairs the broad bust point obverse only with a six-leaf cluster reverse.
Listed as Unique in bronze alloy in the ninth edition of Judd, although PCGS has certified another, which appeared as lot 132 in Bowers and Merena's May 1996 auction of the Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr. Collection. It was later offered by Heritage in our 1997 New York ANA Signature as lot 7245, and reappeared in a May 2006 Superior auction as lot 896. That second example can be identified by a spot on the field near the RI in AMERICA.
The present example has generous glimpses of orange-red, particularly within the legends. The devices and open fields are toned brown. Well struck and virtually mark-free with a small spot near the C in AMERICA. An outstanding opportunity for the pattern Indian cent specialist.
    Ex: Anderson DuPont Part II (Stack's, 11/1954), lot 1224; Stack's (8/1971), lot 295.
