Description

Wide Wreath Reverse 1858 Cent Pattern
Judd-211, PR64

1858 P1C Indian Cent, Judd-211, Pollock-255, 262, R.4, PR64 PCGS. PT-33. Narrow Bust Indian. Eagle Eye Photo Seals. The obverse as adopted in 1859 is paired with a reverse that has a wide wreath reverse. Struck in copper-nickel with a plain edge. This Indian cent pattern was struck after the obverse was already adopted for the Indian cent in 1859. Snow states "struck ... in quantities of less than 10 pieces." That is probably an optimistic estimate as only six pieces are believed known today. The fields are moderately reflective, and there are no obvious contact marks on either side, just a few light, scattered flecks of carbon.
Ex: Emery and Nichols Collections (Bowers and Merena, 11/1984), lot 1097.
