    1858 Copper-Nickel Indian Cent
    Judd-212, Pollock-256, Low Date, PR63

1858 P1C Indian Cent, Judd-212, Pollock-256, R.4, PR63 PCGS. The obverse dies are the same type used to coin regular-issue Indian cents from 1860-1864, with a low date. The reverse features the ONE CENT denomination inside an oak wreath with an ornamental shield at the top. Struck in copper-nickel with a plain edge. The Low Date examples are rarely seen and estimates only a half-dozen pieces are known. This auction presents the specialist with the rarely offered opportunity to acquire two Low Date copper-nickel patterns (this and the Judd-208 above). The surfaces are muted, but beneath the patina it is still abundantly evident this is a copper-nickel product. A couple of carbon spots in the center of the obverse are all that detract.
