    Rarely Seen Paquet-Designed 1858 Quarter Pattern, Judd-221

1858 P25C Quarter Dollar, Judd-221, Pollock-264, R.7, PR66 NGC. The initial pairing of the Liberty Seated obverse with a classic reverse design by Anthony Paquet featuring a heraldic-style eagle grasping an olive sprig, three slender arrows, and tall letters around the margin. Fewer than a dozen are believed known. The first appearance in public auction was lot C in Edward Cogan's sale from May 21, 1860 sale where it was erroneously stated that only four were struck. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. The surfaces are mostly brilliant with heavily striated fields that provide a nice background for the chalky devices. Undoubtedly one of the finest examples known of this rare pattern striking.
    Ex: 1998 ANA Sale (Heritage, 8/98), lot 5033. (NGC ID# 29C2, PCGS# 11914)
