    Description

    1859 Copper-Nickel Cent, Reverse of 1860
    Judd-228, PR63

1859 1C Indian Cent, Judd-228, Pollock-272, R.1, PR63 ANACS. The transitional Pointed Bust Type of 1860 but dated 1859. The reverse displays the oak wreath and shield design first struck for circulation on 1860 cents, instead of the simpler laurel wreath reverse used on business strike 1859 cents. Struck in copper-nickel with a plain edge. These pieces were struck in both proof and business strike formats. This example displays significant reflectivity in the fields, serving to enhance the light honey-rose and pale blue surfaces. One diagonal mark on the Indian's cheekbone explains the grade, making this an excellent value for the grade.
