1859 P$20 Twenty Dollar, Judd-257, Pollock-305, High R.6, PR64 Brown NGC. Anthony Paquet's seated figure of Liberty faces left supporting a fasces with her right hand and a shield with her left. An eagle with spread wings stands behind the shield. The denomination, 20 DOLLARS, the date, 1859, and the statutory legend, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, appear within a heavy wreath on the reverse that was also created by Paquet. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. Several of the two dozen known examples are gilt. Sharply defined throughout with rich mahogany-brown surfaces that show faint traces of underlying red.
