1859 P1C Indian Cent, Judd-227, Pollock-271, Low R.6, MS64
NGC. Snow-PT3. The designs are reminiscent of the issued 1860
Indian cent, but the reverse shield is broad and ornamented. Struck
in copper-nickel with a reeded edge, and many times rarer than the
transitional Judd-228. This is a beautiful sun-gold near-Gem. The
obverse has cartwheel luster, while the reverse is prooflike.
Intricately struck and mark-free with occasional pinpoint
Possibly From the Famous Farouk Collection
Accompanied by an old-type typed collector envelope, and an Abe Kosoff signed cardboard tag that attests 'this coin' is from the Palace Collection of King Farouk of Egypt. The tag refers to AW-313, the pre-Judd Adams-Woodin designation for the pattern variety. Presumably once part of lot 1770, sold on March 3, 1954 in the Cairo, Egypt Sotheby auction.
