Partially 'White' 1859 Indian Cent Pattern
    Judd-228, MS64

1859 P1C Indian Cent, Judd-228, Pollock-272, R.1, MS64 PCGS. CAC. This is a transitional pattern that combines the standard Indian Head cent obverse with the adopted reverse design of 1860-1909. Struck in copper-nickel with a plain edge. This pattern exists in both business strike and proof formats. This particular piece is a business strike, but it still shows bright, flashy fields on each side, but lacks the reflectivity one would expect from a proof. Significant irregularly shaped areas of the original "white" surface of the copper-nickel alloy remain on each side intermingled with the expected reddish patina. The strike is sharp, in fact full on all design elements, except the shield at the top of the reverse. (NGC ID# 29C8, PCGS# 11932)
