Description
Transitional 1859 Judd-228 Cent, MS65
1859 P1C Indian Cent, Judd-228, Pollock-272, R.1, MS65 NGC. Snow-PT4. The transitional Pointed Bust Type of 1860 but with date 1859. The reverse displays the oak wreath and shield design first struck for circulation on 1860 cents, instead of the simpler laurel wreath reverse used on business strike 1859 cents. Struck in copper-nickel with a plain edge. Boldly defined with golden-tan surfaces. The fields are faintly reflective with satiny luster. This is one of few pattern issues that are normally found in Mint State rather than proof.Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 11934, GSID# 12367)
