Description

1859 Indian Cent in Copper-Nickel
Judd-228, MS65
Splendid High-Grade Example

1859 P1C Indian Cent, Judd-228, Pollock-272, R.1, MS65 PCGS. A popular transitional pattern that pairs the issued 1859 Indian Head cent obverse with the Shield Reverse introduced into commerce in 1860. Struck in copper-nickel with a plain edge. Judd-228 is often collected as part of the Indian cent series, and Rick Snow seems to agree, since he has delisted the Snow-PT4 variety formerly assigned to Judd-228. Whether it is a pattern or a regular issue cent, the present Gem is delightful. It features uniform apricot-gold color, and appears devoid of carbon and contact. Population: 91 in 65 (5 in 65+), 19 finer (3/25).

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 29C8, PCGS# 11932, Greysheet# 12332)
