Description

Transitional 1859 Indian Cent, MS65
Judd-228, Shield Reverse

1859 P1C Indian Cent, Judd-228, Pollock-272, Snow-PT4, R.1, MS65 PCGS. This is a transitional pattern that combines the standard Indian Head cent obverse with the adopted reverse design of 1860. Struck in copper-nickel with a plain edge. This pattern exists in both business strike and proof formats. This particular piece is a business strike, and shows satiny cartwheel luster on both sides. The strike is bold aside from the top of the shield. Minor left obverse carbon determines the grade.
Ex: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 6/2012), lot 4662.
