Description
1859 P1C Indian Cent, Judd-229, Pollock-273, R.7, MS 61 Brown SEGS. A transitional design cent featuring the obverse of 1859 and the reverse of 1860-1909. Struck in copper and with a plain edge rather than the usual copper-nickel composition. According to Pollock, most examples cataloged in the past as Judd-229 have been misattributed. This piece certainly has the look of a copper coin with its deep reddish-brown surfaces. A few small specks of carbon on each side tend to limit the upper possibilities of the grade range for this piece, but still this is a very attractive example of this rare pattern.
