    Description

    1859 Indian Cent in Copper-Nickel
    Judd-227 With Ornamental Shield, MS64

1859 P1C Judd-227, Pollock-271, Low R.6, MS64 PCGS. A regular 1859-dated cent die was mated with a pattern reverse die displaying a small ornamental shield between the upper points of an oak wreath. ONE CENT, in two lines, fills the central design area. Struck in copper-nickel with a reeded edge. This relatively common pattern is one of the few available as a business strike. The surfaces are light gray-tan with an overlay of red patina. A few spots are scattered over each side. (NGC ID# 29C6, PCGS# 11931)
