1859 'French Head' Half Dollar in Silver

1859 P50C Half Dollar, Judd-239, Pollock-295, R.4, PR64 Cameo
PCGS. CAC.Ex: Simpson. Longacre's "French Head" design for the half dollar that features a bust of Liberty facing right, draped with a ribbon inscribed LIBERTY with a wide wreath of oak and vine on her head. The reverse features the "cereal wreath" of the issued 1860 Seated dime, though larger in scale commensurate with the diameter. The denomination is expressed as 1/2 DOLLAR within the wreath. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. This is one of the more frequently encountered early patterns and can be found in both silver and copper. Each side is brilliant, except for a diagonal grease stain (as made) in the center of the reverse. A popular and obtainable early pattern.
