1859 Longacre-Designed Half in Silver
Judd-239, PR64

1859 P50C Half Dollar, Judd-239, Pollock-295, R.4, PR64 NGC. Longacre's so-called "French Head" design for the half dollar that features a bust of Liberty facing right, draped with a ribbon inscribed LIBERTY with a wide wreath of oak and vine on the head. The reverse features the wreath of the issued 1860 Seated dime, though larger in scale commensurate with the diameter. The denomination is expressed as 1/2 DOLLAR within the wreath. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. The surfaces are bright with just the slightest accent of pale golden toning. Nicely reflective fields.
