Pleasing Proof 1859 J-240 Half Dollar Pattern

1859 P50C Half Dollar, Judd-240, Pollock-296, R.5, PR64 Brown NGC. The Longacre design with the "cereal wreath" reverse. Pattern expert, Saul Teichman, questions whether this pattern was designed by Longacre or Paquet as the 1859 half dollar patterns used Paquet's punches in the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. One of the more available patterns in copper. This piece is struck in copper with a reeded edge. The bright, glassy mirrored fields brighten and enliven the rich chocolate brown, lime-green, and red colorations that cover each side of this attractive near-Gem example.(#11974) (NGC ID# 29CK, PCGS# 11974)
