Brown Near-Gem 1859 "French Head" Half Dollar Pattern, Judd-240

1859 P50C Half Dollar, Judd-240, Pollock-296, R.5, PR64 Red and Brown ICG. The famous and popular "French Head" design that was allegedly designed by Longacre, with the so-called "cereal wreath" reverse. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. This obverse was muled with several different reverses, and restrikes were made into the 1860s and 1870s. This piece has even brown patina over each side with most of the brightness now dulled in the fields. However, on a technical (and more positive) note, there are no singular contact marks to distract the viewer's attention.(#11975) (NGC ID# 29CK, PCGS# 11975)
