    1861 Quarter Eagle, Die Trials Striking in Copper

    1861 $2 1/2 Quarter Eagle, Judd-282, Pollock-333, R.7, PR 61 Brown PCGS. This coin was previously offered as lot 7436 in our 2000 FUN Sale, where it was cataloged as: "This pattern was struck in copper with the regular issue quarter eagle dies of 1861. While both sides exhibit deep brown color, only the obverse lightens to a milk chocolate color on the devices. Neither side exhibits any distracting qualities."
