    1863 Billon Postage Currency Pattern
    Judd-326A, Nearly Spot-Free PR65

1863 10C Ten Cents, Judd-326A, Pollock-394, Cassel-6, High R.6, PR65 PCGS. 24.7 grains. Standard Postage Currency obverse and reverse designs. Struck in billon with a plain edge. This beautiful Gem proof was SEM-EDX tested by S&N Labs on certificate number 60485.65/2412871 and the metallurgical results were: 83.3% copper and 16.2% silver. Like the other PR65 (the 24.5 grains-piece), this example has rich moss green patina over each side with faint traces of rose. The common color of these two pieces makes us wonder if patterns with this percentage of copper / silver alloy naturally take on this particular color scheme. We are even more convinced this may be the case since both pieces came from such diverse sources. This piece is nearly spot-free and the strike is complete on each side.
