1863 Cent Struck in Bronze, Judd-299
    Thin Planchet Variant, PR64 Brown

1863 1C One Cent, Judd-299, Pollock-359, R.3, PR64 Brown NGC. The regular Indian cent dies of 1863, save for the missing L on the ribbon, struck with the dies in medal alignment on a bronze planchet with plain edge. This appears to be a thin planchet variant, but it is impossible to say with certainty; the piece is housed in an older NGC slab. This piece proves the point stated on the USPatterns.com website: These patterns are "very difficult to find with a significant amount of red color." This piece shows no red, just deep brown patina over each side. The striking definition is complete throughout. The PR64 grade is apparently from a couple of shallow slide marks across the Indian's face. (NGC ID# 29ED, PCGS# 60454)
