    Description

1863 No L Indian Cent in Bronze
    Judd-299, PR64 Red and Brown

1863 1C One Cent, Judd-299, Pollock-359, R.3, PR64 Red and Brown NGC. Snow-PT1. Medallic alignment. From regular issue dies, but struck in bronze with a plain edge. A transitional pattern for the 1864 bronze No L regular issue with plain edge. It appears this is the more frequently seen thin planchet variant. USPatterns.com estimates approximately 200 examples are known of this transitional pattern. These pieces are rarely seen with mint red, but this one displays significant (30-40%) original red on the obverse surrounding the devices and in the fields. The reverse not so much. Both sides, however, shine brightly with mirrored reflectivity in the proof fields. A couple of spots in the center of the obverse prevent an even higher grade.
